Happy World Photography day.
Photographs have become so integral to our existence. Everyday we actually take countless photos without even realising that we are clicking a memory or a moment. Like, when was the last time you took a picture? It won’t be that long ago. We are all recording our moments. And we feel that if we have not taken a picture of that moment, then we have not really “lived” that moment. Or we do not want to forget how happy we were, so it’s as if you want to contain that happiness, hence you click.
They say the best memories are of those which we do not have a photo of. I don’t agree to that. I feel because we have such brilliant moments happening in our lives, we want it to last forever, we want it to stay, so we click, click, click, and click.
Everyday I click something or the other. Today itself in my gallery you will find pictures of the book I was reading, my newly “manicured and for a change nice looking” nails and mostly moments with my niece.
Sometimes I even capture the most simplest but happiest moments of my day. Like when I am having tea and have set up a nice spread for myself with crisps and khari. I am so happy in that moment with my tea that I quickly take a picture of it. If the sun is shining beautifully through the gaps of my curtains and my room is illuminated in a wonderful way, I take a picture. When K is home on a weekday and he is reading next to me, I click. Because I am so happy in these little moments that come and go that I just want to hold all of it in my heart and phone so they don’t seep away from me.
When we had gone to Canada, our full family was together. We had amazing moments playing games, doing random picnics, arm wrestling and what not. Thankfully we clicked and recorded all those moments. And I still browse through them. Takes me back to a very happy time.
Lot of people I am sure feel that we are too obsessed with clicking pictures. So obsessed that we do not actually “live” or enjoy the actual moment. I do not deny that happens. It does. Many times. But it also stays, it’s a record of your life. And most of the times we do enjoy the moment whilst snapping it.
That picture is like a witness. It’s a story. And we all have a story to tell.
A story that tells us all that reality is actually nice. Reality is actually beautiful. Most of the times at least. Found this quote below and thought of sharing!
“Taking pictures is like tiptoeing into the kitchen late at night and stealing Oreo cookies.”
— Diane Arbus
I read somewhere once that a photo is not about the things you see but the way you see them. So true. It’s all about your eye for the regular.
Anyway that’s all from end. Had a great day reading away and a very hectic teaching day lined up tomorrow. Need to sleep off but I just cannot keep my book down!
So now back to my book!
Chop chop!
